Why is the history of Beaujolais above all a story of families, roots and friendships. Is it because of the solidarity amongst people in Beaujolais or is it because Beaujolais wine is the perfect wine for drinking with others? The wine-growing businesses handed down from generation to generation still remain small family affairs.
Before 1950 there were a lot of families who cultivated their land. Since this time much has changed. However, one fact has remained constant. Family comes first!

However anachronistic this may seem it is as natural to the region as the goodness of the people.
Some properties have several generations housed under one roof. Such family solidarity is characteristic of the region. The rural traits of the area are still very much in evidence and a closeness to nature means that man and nature coexist in harmony. During the grapepicking season, the teams are made up of family members, friends and lots of students who all meet up at mealtimes to savour the local cuisine prepared (usually) by the lady of the house.
